Revision as of 07:28, 9 February 2023
The 2nd Team Mafia event kicked off in May 2012 with 16 teams. 3 out of 5 games were won by the Town side. The Captains were announced as the winners on July 2nd, 2012. The runner-up team, The Kliq II, also won all 4 of their games and lost by just 8 points.
Format
The event was played by 16 4-player teams across 5 different games. Team members were public knowledge, though unrevealed alt accounts could be used. Teams received a designated QuickTopic for all team communication during the event that they could continue to participate in post-death. Each team submitted a preference list for which games their team would participate in and these preferences were handled through a snake draft. Role PMs for the team were then received prior to team members deciding which game they would participate in. Teams were responsible for finding their own replacements, and were allowed to replace dead players. It was also within the rules to have a dead player in one game replace into another game.
Zoraster remained as Head Mod of the event. He was joined by a new team of moderators and setup designers including: Equinox, hasdgfas, Vi, Faraday, and Mina.
Scoring
This second iteration of Team Mafia featured changes to the scoring that were intended to avoid the large tie that had resulted the previous year. Still, teams earned points by winning games. It was valuable to "win big." Points earned for each win were modified by the number of surviving players for the winning side relative to other wins for the same side.
Tie Break
1. Correct wagon behavior on D1 in games where their slot was town. Having been eliminated D1 counts as incorrect. If the D1 eliminated person was mafia, in the final vote count, voting for them is "correct" and not voting for them is "incorrect." If the D1 eliminated person was town, in the final vote count, voting for them is "incorrect" and not voting for them is "correct." (Skip this method if at least one team tied for first were mafia in all 4 games.) 2. Compare head-to-head matches among tied teams. In other words, any time two teams were on different sides in the same game, whoever was victorious there will break the tie. (Skip this method if results are conflicting.) 3. Decision by the Head Mod and Moderators about which team best led their side to victory as well as displayed teamwork in their Team QT.
Scoring Equations
For each town victory a team had (results rounded to nearest whole number): [(Number of Surviving Town Members + 25) / (Average Number of Surviving Town Members Across all town wins + 25)]*100 For each scum victory your team had: [(Number of Surviving Mafia Members * 2 + 25)/(Average number of surviving mafia members across all scum wins * 2 + 25 )]*100 Note: For a White Flag mafia victory, subtract 0.5 from number of surviving mafia members on both sides of the division sign. The team with the most combined points would win.
Equation for Tiebreaker 1: Among tied teams: [{(Number of D1 eliminations on a correct elimination as town * 3) - (Number of times that your team was incorrect about a D1 elimination as town)}/(Number of Games Your team was town)]

Reception
There was some critical reception of the scoring system. Zoraster stated that for the future, they may need to return to the "drawing board." Some criticism was results-oriented because the ewinning team had a high volume of replacements. Additionally, there was a complaint from a mafia team member in the Scummies game that their weakest team member in-game was essentially "carried to victory" in the event as a whole. On the other hand, The Head Mod commented about the Captains that "they actually played as a team well once those replacements went through."
Game balance and the challenges of producing theme games for the event were also discussed post-game. The Head Mod reflected that the next iteration would likely have more basic games.
