Status: Experimental Normal

A Masonizer is a player who can target other players at Night to attempt to recruit them into a Masonry. Anyone in that masonry is known to not be aligned with the Mafia, and thus a Masonizer may not recruit a Mafioso under any circumstance. They may begin speaking to each other at the end of the Night, or at the beginning of the next Night - it depends on whether the moderator allows the Masons to speak during the Day. A Masonizer will die if they attempt to recruit a Mafioso.

Masonizers are by definition pro-Town. They usually do not have any Masons at the beginning of the game.

Normal version

This role is on the Experimental Role List, and is currently allowed in Complex Normal games.

A Masonizer may attempt to recruit a player to a Masonry during the night. This recruitment will fail (even if strong-willed) and the Masonizer will die if the Masonizer targets someone who isn't aligned with the Town. Anyone successfully recruited by a Masonizer will be added to a Masonry, will learn the Masonizer is aligned with the Town, and will be confirmed to be Town-aligned to everyone else in that Masonry.

Any players added to a Masonry are added at the start of the next day, regardless of whether the Masonizer lives or not, and their Role Name is not changed.

The Loyal modifier may be applied to a Masonizer to prevent them from dying from targeting players not aligned with the Town.

Variations

A Neighborizer recruits players to a Neighborhood. Anyone can be recruited to a Neighborhood by a Neighborizer.

In Theme or Open games, a Masonizer may add anti-town alignments that aren't Mafia to their Masonry - in this case anyone added to the Masonry will be confirmed to not be Mafia-aligned to everyone else in that Masonry.

Use & Balance

A Masonizer is a very effective role that is balanced by its inherent Weak modifier. A Loyal Masonizer, unbound by the inherent Weak modifier, effectively combines the best qualities of Cop, Friendly Neighbor, and Neighborizer.

Sample Role PMs

The sample Role PM for "Masonizer" describes the action as follows:

  • As a targeted action: you will add that player to your mason private topic and confirm their alignment as Town to everyone else in your mason private topic. This action will always fail if it targets someone not aligned with the Town, and you will die if you target someone not aligned with the Town. (edit)

Example (simplest form)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Masonizer.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will add that player to your mason private topic and confirm their alignment as Town to everyone else in your mason private topic. This action will always fail if it targets someone not aligned with the Town, and you will die if you target someone not aligned with the Town.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Town 1-shot Loud Masonizer.

You have the following active ability:

  • Once in the game at Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will add that player to your mason private topic and confirm their alignment as Town to everyone else in your mason private topic. This action will always fail if it targets someone not aligned with the Town, and you will die if you target someone not aligned with the Town. Your target will learn that you targeted them (but not what action you targeted them with).

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
