A less common Mafia role, the Ninja functions as similar to an Investigation-Immune [[Godfather]], except instead of being immune to [[Cop]]s, it is immune to [[Tracker]]s and [[Watcher]]s. This definition can be expanded depending on the style of information roles in the game.

A Ninja is a player who can perform a factional kill that cannot be seen by a Tracker, Watcher, or similar role; it has the same relationship to action investigations that Godfather does to faction investigations.

Normal version

This role is allowed in Regular Normal games.

A Ninja's factional kill cannot be seen by action-investigative roles (e.g. Tracker, Watcher, Observer, Follower, and Motion Detector); all these roles return results as though the Ninja kill had not occurred at all. Roles that do not investigate actions, such as Roleblocker, can interact with a Ninja kill as normal.

A Ninja is considered to be an active role in Normal games.

Variations

Stealthy was split off from this role. Stealthy is a modifier that makes actions unable to be seen by action-investigative roles.

A Ninja can easily be considered to be a passive role, having their factional kills become unable to be seen by action-investigative roles. In fact, Ninja can easily be seen as both an active role and a passive role.

Use & Balance

There will almost never be any ill effects to sending a Ninja to perform the Mafia's kill, so as long as the Ninja is alive, Trackers and Watchers will simply never see the Mafia kill. This tremendously decreases the effectiveness of both roles, as they can no longer directly catch scum.

The existence of a Ninja generally implies the existence of a Tracker or Watcher. Arguably, in the current meta the existence of a Watcher implies the existence of a Ninja.

Play Advice

If you are on a groupscum team, you should usually be performing the factional kill each night, unless you fear being roleblocked or a Juggernaut exists in the setup. In other cases, the main influence that the Ninja role should have on your play is that you don't need to play around investigations.

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Ninja" describes the action as follows:

  • As an active action: if no other member of your faction is performing the factional kill action, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will perform the factional kill. This action is not visible to Tracker-like and Watcher-like roles. (edit)

Example (simplest form)

Welcome to game! You are a Mafia Ninja.

Your team-mates are names. You may talk to them here during night phases and confirmations only.

You have the following active abilities, but may use only one per Night:

  • Each Night, if no other member of your faction is performing this action, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will die.
  • Each Night, if no other member of your faction is performing the factional kill action, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will perform the factional kill. This action is not visible to Tracker-like and Watcher-like roles.

You win if at least one mafia member is alive and all other players are dead (or if nothing can prevent the same).

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Mafia 1-shot Ninja.

Your team-mates are names. You may talk to them here during night phases and confirmations only.

You have the following active abilities, but may use only one per Night:

  • Each Night, if no other member of your faction is performing this action, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will die.
  • Once in the game at Night, if no other member of your faction is performing the factional kill action, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will perform the factional kill. This action is not visible to Tracker-like and Watcher-like roles.

You win if at least one mafia member is alive and all other players are dead (or if nothing can prevent the same).

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
