An Actor is a player that can only vote if the vote is a hammer. An attempt to cast a vote that isn't a hammer may be met either with a vote count where the Actor's vote does nothing (confirming the player as an Actor), or a modkill.
Actors are essentially never seen in practice, but are traditionally Town-aligned.
Standard version
An Actor may not cast a vote that isn't a deciding vote. If an Actor casts a vote that isn't a deciding vote, their vote weight will be zero.
Variations
An Actor who casts a vote that isn't a deciding vote may instead unavoidably die or may instead be modkilled.
This role is the inverse of the Priest.
A variant unofficially termed Sadist may only vote players who are at most three votes away from being eliminated.
This is not to be confused with Hammerer.
Use & Balance
Because it is usually impossible to prove a given player is an Actor if they only place hammering votes, the fact that this role is usually Town-aligned cannot be taken advantage of. However, the fact that Actor is a particularly unheard-of role makes it an unlikely falseclaim...
Ignoring the meta context, Actor is at best no different from Vanilla and at worst a distraction to the Town.
Sample Role PMs
The standardized Role PM for "Actor" describes the passive ability as follows:
- As an unmodified passive ability:
You must not attempt to cast a non-deciding vote.
(edit)
- As a passive ability with a modifier:
You must not attempt to cast the nth non-deciding vote OR a non-deciding vote on day n.
(edit)
Example (unmodified)
Welcome to game! You are a Town Actor.
You must not attempt to cast a non-deciding vote.
You have no active abilities.
You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
Example (modified)
Welcome to game! You are a Town Odd Day Actor.
You must not attempt to cast a non-deciding vote on an odd-numbered day.
You have no active abilities.
You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
