There are 11 houses in a circle. Which player lives in each house can be decided at game start randomly or via players picking each house. Or you can have players pick a new house each day if you want only night talk and pairings to be changeable and not collapsible. The player that lives in house 1, can talk to whomever lives in house 2 and house 11 during the night. The players in house 2 can talk to whomever lives in house 1 and house 3 during the night. And so on through the circle. Any player can live next to any player regardless of each player's alignment. Yes, it is possible for Mafia to live next to Mafia. If a player dies 'pick house from start format' the houses are collapsible and thus the private topics that player had with anyone are gone. Player in house 2 can not talk to house 1 or house 3 if house 2 is dead. If a player dies in the 'pick a new house each day' format then players get new neighbors each night and the circle of players gets tighter and tighter. Would likely want long nights in this format and lots of neighbor threads unless you want to add an odd mechanic where you reuse certain threads other players had.

PF Stoofer's rule 2 advicement: Run a Random pairings at start with day talk. See how it goes. If town wins, then switch to new pairings each day format (night talk only) as that should favor scum more If scum wins, then switch to players pick at start format as that should favor town and experienced players more as they will have an idea of who they want to play and neighbor with
