Mountainous is a term given to setups that have no power roles at all. The name is held over from the original game with this arrangement run by Werebear, and has since acquired the connotation that these games are "difficult" due to the lack of power roles helping Town.

The "classic" Mountainous setup featured two scum and ten Townies before the player limit on Mini games was increased to 13.

Discussion

10:2 Mountainous has long been considered a balanced setup that relies exclusively on player skill. The balance of this setup is highly suspect, though, as the Town's theoretical win rate is only 33.2% - almost the same as Town winning a 2:1 ELo.

11:2 Mountainous has an expected win rate of 39.49%, which is better, but not nearly what public expectation was.
