A Hammerer is a role that passively hammers players. This effect will occur if a player only needs one more vote to be lynched and the Hammerer's vote is not already on the wagon; the Hammerer's vote will be automatically moved to the wagon to secure the lynch. If the Hammerer's vote is already on the wagon, the passive hammer is not possible.

This role is very rarely Town-aligned.

Variations

A common variant of this role is not passive, but instead requires the Hammerer to privately contact the moderator to place the secret hammering vote.

In addition to either of the above variants, anti-Town Hammerers usually show up on the final vote count with their original vote where it was (unmoved); and if there is any indication of who placed the hammering vote at all, it is simply attributed to "The Hammerer" or something similar. This is to maintain the anonymity of the scum Hammerer.

Use and Power

Hammerer is quite a shock role Day 1, but once its presence is known it can easily be planned around. Thus, it is not a particularly strong power role on paper, but its presence can cause psychological strain. This is particularly true in cases where a player is brought to L-1 but not immediately hammered thereafter; leading to WIFOM games regarding whether the player at L-1 is Hammerer-allied scum, or if the Hammerer is already on the wagon, or if the Hammerer is just faking out the Town.

It is important that Hammerers always maintain one vote, even if that one vote gets moved secretly. A Hammerer who can hammer a wagon they are already on is essentially a Doublevoter, and thus much stronger if anti-Town.
