A Nexus is a player that passively redirects players who target it to a random other player. A Nexus is effectively Bulletproof Ascetic, as any action targeting them will be redirected to a random player.

This role is very much within role madness. However, it is not necessarily of any alignment.

Nexus is the opposite of Lightning Rod.

Standard version

A Nexus will redirect actions targeting them to random players other than the Nexus. This may cause players to self-target if actions are randomly redirected back to that player.

Variations

A Nexus may fail to redirect kill actions, making them effectively only Ascetic.

A Nexus may alternately be allowed to target a player to have actions targeting the Nexus be redirected to the Nexus's target.

Use & Balance

Nexus is mostly good for adding chaos to the game. A Town-aligned Nexus is more likely to hurt Town, but a scum-aligned Nexus is more likely to help scum. As a result, there is a case to be made for policy eliminating Nexus claims.

A Serial Killer that is also a Nexus is particularly strong, as it essentially cannot be detected by any means other than the elimination. (However, it is possible for the role to be accidentally incriminated via false positives caused by redirections onto players who happen to be performing scummy actions at the time.)

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Nexus" describes the passive ability as follows:

  • As an unmodified passive ability: actions that target you will be redirected to random players. (edit)
  • As a passive ability with a modifier: the nth action that targets you will be redirected to a random player OR actions that target you will be redirected to random players on day n. (edit)

Example (unmodified)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Nexus.

Actions that target you will be redirected to random players.

You have no active abilities.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (modified)

Welcome to game! You are a Town 1-shot Nexus.

The first action that targets you will be redirected to a random player.

You have no active abilities.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
