* Most players instinctively want to tell you their role ''on some level''.  Exception: [[Doctor]]s always want to hide the fact that they are doctors (and may allude to being something else).

This information is probably out of date, and needs to be edited by someone who knows what has happened since the last update.

Here are a few simple tells that may help you find various roles in Mafia.

By making these "tells" public knowledge, they should fade away (but will probably never completely disappear). Players may attempt to plant some of these (to bluff those who read this).

Some general rules of thumb1 that I use:

  • Most players instinctively want to tell you their role on some level. Exception: Doctors always want to hide the fact that they are doctors (and may allude to being something else).
  • Pro-town roles rarely lie. This makes it much easier to determine pro-town roles. (It is generally accepted that pro-town liars reduce the town's chances of winning. Lynch All Liars!)
  • Players often ask about something they caused. When players ask "what's up with XXX" it means they probably did it. Especially if they try to tell the town that it "must be" a pro-town ability.
    • Example: The first person to speculate on whether or not a Serial Killer is in the game may be the serial killer, or the first person to wonder about a possible Vigilante kill may be the vigilante, etc.
