Inverted is a modifier that removes restrictions on targeting a player (such as from a Commuter or a modifier that limits targeting).

Standard version

An Inverted role causes roles that would normally not be able to target the Inverted role's target to be able to target the Inverted role's target. This would negate the effects of a Commuter or Enchanter, and would allow the Inverted role's target to be targeted regardless of modifiers that limit targeting (such as Loyal or Simple).

Variations

Inverted should not be confused with the Inverse reliability!

Magical Fairy is a role that inverts untargetability.

The standardized Role PM for "Inverted" describes the modifier as follows:

  • As a modifier on a single ability: Actions that would normally be unable to target this action's target will be able to target this action's target. (edit)
  • As a modifier that affects all abilities: Actions that would normally be unable to target your target will be able to target your target. (edit)

Example (modifying a single ability)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Inverted Jailkeeper.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be protected from kills that night, but all their actions will be blocked that night. Actions that would normally be unable to target this action's target will be able to target this action's target.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Example (affecting all abilities)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Inverted Jack of All Trades Tracker Doctor.

Actions that would normally be unable to target your target will be able to target your target.

You have the following active abilities, but may use only one per Night:

  • Once in the game at night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn who that player targeted that night. (You will get "no result" if this action is blocked.)
  • Once in the game at night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be protected from one kill that night.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
