An alignment is a faction in a game of Mafia. Any true game of mafia will have an "informed minority" and an "uninformed majority". Most of the time these are referred to as the Mafia and Town, respectively. There are also Cults and people like the Serial Killer who are in alignments of their own (Third-party roles). Any game that starts to blur the "informed minority" and "uninformed majority" should probably be classified as a Mafia Mutation.
