Cursed Mall

This game series of Mish Mash games by ambic is a variant of Haunted Mansion. Players are provided with a character, alignment and primary goal. Characters move between rooms on a map and interact with other players and objects within that room.

The Kowhai Mall - Intro

Late nights at Kowhai Mall are the place to be. The 24-hour shopping mall declares itself to be 'hip', 'happening', 'heroic' and a variety of other meaningless words hand-picked by advertising specialists that seem to think that alliteration and buzzwords mean you will drop everything precious to you and immediately shop here. You may have come here having been won over by such underhanded practices as subliminal advertising and an all out assault on your psyche, but chances are you came here for a reason. And if you fulfill that reason, you can leave the mall with your head held high.

Rata Mall - Intro

The Rata Mall was established a long time ago. There were rumours circulating about it's real source of income, as the stores inside it were only mildly popular at best.

The world changed suddenly. Governments collapsed, probably world-wide, though no one could honestly tell you. Perhaps it's only your city. Perhaps not. The electricity networks, the cellular networks, and all social media disappeared, forcing humans back into a neanderthal-like-existence. At first, people formed small and then large feudal gangs to help protect themselves. These gangs had their own rules, but even these failed over time as the numbers of humanity dropped back to an equilibrium with a much harder environment to live in.

It's been two years since the unexplained societal collapse. Coming across strangers is rare now, but those who are still alive are resourceful and clever.

John Thompson, a renowned mixologer (Famous on Social Media for his Cocktails) broke his way into the abandoned Rata Mall. He noticed something interesting after getting into the sealed off carpark - the automated doors near the walkway - they slid open to welcome him. That shouldn't have been possible. Electricity was rare these days, and that meant the mall had operating generators. He walked in, as though on a mission, and was initially met with the site of the Eatery. His hand found a lightswitch near the door. A set of tables and chairs, mostly overturned, and a variety of food-hawking stalls that once sold things like the Burrito-Burger and Qhicken Qurry (whatever that was). He saw something on the floor, and picked it up. It was an old coin, with the head of Franklin D. Roosevelt on it. He pocketed the coin, turned around and left seemingly having changed his mind about being there.

It would seem strange that 12 people would independently 're-discover' the mall on the same day. The mall had been looted back in 2022, and no one expected to find anything in there any more. But John Thompson had left the lights on, and that had been a beacon to those living nearby.

They met initially in the Eatery area - a small open area comprising the tables and chairs, and the old stalls. Beyond the eating area, were all the shops.
