For balance reasons, Politician is usually Town-aligned.

Use and Power

Town-aligned Politicians can steal other players' votes. This has no practical positive effect except possibly to stop quickhammers in LyLo and/or single-handedly decide the game if only three players are alive. It can, however, have a nasty negative effect if the Politician is killed during the Night, rendering one player Voteless during the next Day.

Scum-aligned Politicians have one more vote to their faction's credit as long as the Politician is alive. In order to balance this like in a normal game, this means the scum team has one fewer member than usual and gets hosed if the Politician dies.
