The Coalition

The Coalition is an Open Setup based around compromise and coming to a collective agreement. On Day 1, the town may attempt to form a townblock ("Coalition") of five players. If all members of this block are town, the town wins immediately. Otherwise, the game proceeds on to Day 1 as a normal mountainous game.

Mechanics

• On Day 1, each townie may create a townblock of five players.
• A majority coalition is agreed upon when at least five players have the same group of five people proposed as a coalition.
• Mafia have daytalk.

Notes

The expected value for town is slightly larger than 41.5%. Interestingly, while scum must make an effort to get at least one of their members within the coalition, it is suboptimal for both members to be in the coalition – given the information from a failed coalition that at least one scum must be within that group of five people, the correct course of action for town is to lynch from within that group. Having two scum within that group of five increases the odds that scum are lynched.
