In October 2006, MafiaScum experienced another moderate-sized crash. The reason is still not knownVerify?, but several days of posts were lost and other strange bugs crept into the forums afterward. Nearly simultaneously, CPU quota errors popped up and Bluehost shut the site down temporarily. The site was down for nearly a month, prompting many newer players to leave.
Eventually things were sorted out and the site came back up, but some games struggled with finding replacements afterward. Eventually, the site upgraded to a newer hosting plan and became larger and more active than before.
