Night Start is a Game Mechanic by which the game starts with a Night phase, Night 0. This is to contrast with Day Start.
While this was originally the default for Mafia games, due to criticisms that it increased the swing of games and prevented every player who signed up to play from actually getting to do anything, it fell from favor. Some moderators still prefer it (or a variation of it) in games where it is desired for power roles to get a head start on the game. Night start games almost always allow players to post during the night, as opposed to day start games where the thread is usually locked during night.
