The dread event.

The Grey Screen of Annoyance refers to a once-common phenomenon on MafiaScum.net. Our forum gets a lot of traffic, and at peak times of the day we sometimes exceed the bandwidth provided for us by our hosting service, bluehost. When that happens, the entire site becomes unavailable for 5-10 minutes, replaced with the grey message shown to the right.

This was much more common before we upgraded to a higher-bandwidth server in early 2007; now it seems to happen once every few weeks, rather than several times a day. Of course, the new hosting package costs more money, so users may wish to donate to help defray mith's costs.
