UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Okay so you have entered into a game and are not sure what to do. the game has I think 3 phases per day

  • The RVS stage
  • The contention stage
  • The end of day stage

The RVS stage is pretty self explanatory the game has just started, there is no information to go on, but you want to play the game. What do you do? You have two options 1. vote 2. do nothing sit back for a while and see what happens. People vote for any number of reasons. Out of game reasons, familiarity reasons, random reasons stated in thread, etc. From this something will blow out of proportion. There will be players in the universe who says x are town, y are scum, because a, b, or c. Players will engage with the content and say that the player who said this is right or wrong because d, e, or f. Then it continues this way for a while and goes on and on. It stops usually when the deadline is coming up and people say outright who they are comfortable eliminating another thing might happen entirely where two players are tunneled on each other and an elimination happens; however, the end of day goes people are voting for who they want out of the universe.

  • Your job here is to discern the uniformed majority i.e. the town players vs the informed minority the scum players. Essentially who is trying to solve the game and who isn't, and what actions can be attributed to trying to solve the game i.e. what posts come from a "Town" mindset. This leads to another question: What is a town mindset and how can I spot one? Of course, the inverse must be asked as well. What is a scum mindset and how can I spot one?
  • You have a win condition in every universe usually the same one as town or scum. Play until the other faction is dead and a member of your faction is alive. Players are very aware of this win condition but how they achieve it varies greatly from player to player. There are other things you can do than "catch scum" or "find town". You can protect your town reads by building a case on why you believe they are town, you can play the social aspect of the game become everyone's friend so they don't want to eliminate you, you can troll, whatever it is you may do in the game always remember to stay focused on the end; That is, the game will end and you will win or lose based on what you say and what players say against you. This increases the fewer the players there are in the game. You should also be aware of the different playstyles in the game. Some players will write a lot of walls in the game, some players will play based on vote count analysis, some players will play based on their gut, etc. This clash in playstyles can lead to problems with you incorrectly identifying their alignment because they do not think like you. Players often forget in the universe that other players are playing the game to win, that other players have a vested interest in outcomes that are at cross purposes with yours, that other players see things that you don't see, and that you are maybe attributing ideas to other players that they simply don't have; therefor, clarification is important and vital. Always keep in mind that relaxing letting the interactions play out and seeing what happens is also a valid way of playing.
  • The social aspect: Mafia is a game of SOCIAL DEDUCTION. Players may be doing things that have nothing to do with their win condition.
