Percentage Roles are bastard-ish roles that do not actually have any guaranteed effects (including active, targeted, and passive effects).

The percentage amount listed before the role name indicates the level of success that the role will have on any given interaction with that role. The higher the percentage, the greater chance of success.

A moderator would include a role like this only when they are trying to create confusion and frustration among their players. At the moderator's discretion, there are also some roles that exist when it's impossible for a player to know if their action was successful or not. For example, if a Tracker has a 50% chance of success and gets no result on their target, then they will remain unsure if the no result means that their action failed or if their target had no activity. Percentages have no effect on Win Conditions.

Moderators can decide whether or not the players knows if they have a percentage of success or not.

  • The percentage can be listed, letting the player know that failure is possible.
  • The role can be listed a Random, meaning some percentage exists but is unknown to the player.
  • The player could not be told of any chance of failure, this is truly a bastard role.

This is an unpopular role modifier on mafiascum.net because it makes the games swingy and winning the game can depend more on luck than skill.

Examples

  • A 50% Doctor has a 1 in 2 chance that their protect will work.
  • A 33% Mafia Tracker has a 1 in 3 chance of getting a result.
  • A 50% Survivor is still a Survivor.
