(This is an experimental concept) (N.B.: work in progress)

In games I mod, a card system will be used to enforce fairness. Whenever a player breaks one of the rules below, they will receive a penalty, which may be one of the following (in ascending order of gravity):

  • A warning
  • A white card
  • A yellow card. Two white cards make a yellow.
  • A red card. Two yellow cards make a red. Any player who receives a red card will be forcibly replaced.
  • A black card, for extremely egregeous infractions that require referral to the listmods. Any player who receives a black card will be at the least forcibly replaced, and I may request permission to modkill them.

Moreover, I may informally give an orange card for yellow-card-worthy violations that are particularly egregeous.

Repeated violations of the same rule will result in ascending penalties (e.g., if you would get a second warning for the same reason, you'll receive a white card instead, etc.)

General conduct

Black-card infractions

Those should be pretty obvious.

  • Prohibited Viewpoints -- do not advocate for hate ideologies. Examples of such would be Fascism, apology of slavery, holocast denial, or in general any expression of viewpoints that would violate the site rules.
  • Bigotry -- blatant expression of phobic or prejudicial beliefs will not be tolerated; bigoted usage of slurs is similarly forbidden.
  • Threaths -- do not threathen bodily harm, regardless of the vacuity of the threath. Do not send death threaths, or wish death or calamity other players; in fact, it may even be a crime.
  • Doxxing -- do not doxx, attempt to doxx, or threathen to doxx other players.
  • Malicious content -- do not post comtent that, by its own nature, is hazardous and/or illegal. This includes, for instance, phising links, links to malware, gifs containing flashing lights (unless spoilered and properly warned about), links to illegal material, etc.
  • NSFW content -- do not post images or other multimedia containing excessive gore or explicit pornography, nor post links to the same.
  • Proselitism -- do not attempt to recruit other players into a cult or religion.
  • Harassement -- do not harass players.

Red-card infractions

  • Antagonizing -- do not engage in behaviours intended solely, or mainly, to cause distress in other players. If a player tells you that some behaviour is causing them psychological distress, do not keep engaging in that behaviour.
  • Excessive flaming -- do not engage in behaviours with the express purpose of upsetting, enraging or harming the playerlist at large, or a subet thereof. Stirring up shit is fine, and possibly a valid strategy. Reveling in making everyone miserable to the point the game becomes a knife-theeted shooting match is not.
  • Personal attacks -- do not directly insult the character or personhood of other players. Telling someone they suck at Mafia is probably fine; just telling someone they suck is not. In particular, refrain from extrapolating negative character traits external to the game from in-game posting, and refrain from insinuating any deductions about other players' personal life.
  • Excessive AtE -- appealing to emotions, real of fabricated, is of course a legitimate tactic, but there are limits. Don't make so the game is impossible to play confortably because of some manner of emotional blackmail.
  • Harmful trolling -- do not post potentially triggering content with the express purpose of trolling people, or hoping to upset someone. Moreover, if anyone expresses distress about something, do not diminish, laugh at, or pester them about that.

Yellow-card infractions

  • Misgendering and misnaming -- do not intentionally misgender other players. If someone asks you to adress them in some way, do. If someone doesn't want to be referred by a particular nickname, don't.
  • Brawling -- getting into fights is ok, but do not make them degenerate too much past the point of civility. Such things can escalate quickly into ugly messes.
  • Spamming -- do not spam the thread so much to hinder other players from playing. Long strings of posts may happen naturally, but absolutely do not do this deliberately.
  • Out-of-game mistrust -- if someone asserts real-life circumstances, do not sow doubt on their veracity.
  • Out-of-game disonesty -- do not lie about real-life circumstances.
  • Overly gruesome or disturbing content -- do not make posts whose content is exceedingly disturbing or gory. The thread is not the place for your lemony splatter fanfiction.

White-card infractions

  • Lynch -- do not use the word "Lynch" to refer to the Town's collective mean of elimination. Use any replacements you like, like Eliminate, Yeet, Execute, Launch, etc. I'd rather you not use Hang or synonyms thou, as it's semantically very close. This infraction may merit a more heavy penalty if it's committed intentionally.
  • Miscellaneous Toxicity -- do not intentionally make the game unfun or generally be an ass.

Warning infractions

  • Extreme walls -- if you want, or need, to post a walltext, just try to keep it shorter than a novelette.
  • Oversharing -- try not to bring too much of your real-life circumstances into the game; but if you do, consider spoilering any part that you feel may be triggering.

Game Integrity

Black-card infractions

  • Cheating -- do not attempt to gain information you should not have, or otherwise cheat. Example of cheating includes (but are not limited to):
    • entering the game twice with multiple accounts;
    • using mod priviledges, if you have any, or other form of exploits to gain access to private topics you shouldn't have access to;
    • attempting to break into accounts that aren't yours, or giving someone else access to your account;
    • entering with a secret alt a game that you are comodding or that you have codesigned;
    • etc.
  • Quoting private communications -- do not quote communications you received privately. This includes your role PM, any result you may have received, any other communication you may have received from the mod (including sanctions), and any post from a PT you are in. The following are exceptions:
    • you may quote anything into your notes PT or your hydra PT, if you have any;
    • you may quote anything into the Dead thread, if you are dead and the Dead thread is spoilered;
    • you may quote anything into a PT you are in if, for some mechanical reasons, you know that every player in that PT knows that all players in that PT have the same alignment (for instance, a Masonry or the factional scum PT qualify; a Neighborhood does not).
    • you may copypaste anything you posted yourself from anywhere to anywhere, as long as you had made clear that that post was intended as a draft.

Paraphrasing is always admissable.

  • Proving the existence of private communications -- you may not attempt to prove that private communications exist (but you may freely claim that they do). This includes PTs as well as mod communications.
  • Privately messaging other players -- you may not send PMs, or otherwise privately communicate in other ways (e.g. via Discord, other messaging mediums, in-person communication, etc.), about the game.
  • Unilaterally conceding -- you may not concede unless you are third party, or part of an informed minority and all your living partners agree. Do not attempt to concede without making sure your partners agree.

Red-card infractions

  • Trust tells -- do not engage in trust tells: you may use self-meta, but you may not claim or imply that you do X only as some alignment, regardless of veracity.
  • Claiming your buddies -- do not claim to be scum toghether with someone else (just claiming to be scum yourself is fine, as long as it isn't gamethrowing), regardless of veracity. Exceptions can be made if the claim is an obvious jest (again, regardless of veracity).
  • Failure to disclose aquisition of illegal information -- if you somehow obtain information about the game that you shouldn't have, you must inform the mod promptly. (Do note that, unfortunately, you may need to be forcibly replaced anyway.)
  • Editing -- if you have the authority to edit or delete posts, do not do so.
  • Mod impersonation -- do not attempt to impersonate the mod (as long as it's clear that you aren't doing so, you may use the mod color(s)).
  • Hidden secret communication channel -- do not attempt to create a private communication channel with another player hidden in a public thread by using coded language that other players may not reasonably interpret. As an exception, you are allowed to do so if you have agreed on a code with that player in a game-related PT.

Yellow-card infractions

  • Cryptography --do not make use of cryptography (this includes, for instance, using one-way hash functions, using cypers, hiding messages in the metadata of multimedia files, etc.)
