Talk:Ockham's Razor

From MafiaWiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

OR is it

'Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate', which translates literally into English as "Plurality should not be posited without necessity" (actually written by Occam)

OR is it

'Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem', or "Entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity" (which it isn't, BTW, no matter what the source you read says...)

OR should it be quoted as

"Of two competing theories or explanations, all other things being equal, the simpler one is to be preferred."

OR should it be quoted as

"We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances." (Isaac Newton's take on it)

Wikipedia is GOOD, I should have gone there first. I wound up replacing all the original quotes that I collected with exerpts from wikipedia...! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam's_Razor

Enjoy a good chuckle about Occam's Razor? http://www.qwantz.com/index.pl?comic=767
