Singer is a role that, upon being nightkilled, will reveal a random town role to the Mafia. It's usually a town role, although it has been used on independents before, and has potential as a scum role in Multiball setups. It's sometimes used as a modifier for balance purposes. However, due to its negative utility, unprovability, and the fact that unlike Miller there's no real way to make it useful to town, Singer is a very unpopular and uncommon role.

Standard version

A Singer is a passive role that causes a random town role's flip to be posted in the Mafia PT when they die during the night.

Variations

A Singer can activate when it dies for any reason, or it can be truly random what role it reveals.

Alternately, a Singer can work similarly to Vengeful, choosing which player to reveal to the Mafia.

A Singer may also have a predetermined player to reveal in the Mafia PT, however this will lead to redundancy if the predetermined player dies first.

Use & Balance

The role's most common use is to tip the game slightly toward scum, as it's basically a free Role Cop check if the player gets nightkilled but scum doesn't pick who gets checked. It also doesn't work if the target gets eliminated (as a result, Singers are subject to Policy Eliminations). It's not very powerful for either side, so it's only really used if the game would be slightly pro-town otherwise.

Note that although it triggers on an action that's bad for town and hurts town – a combination that would normally cause the role to increase swing – nightkilling players is something that the scum are almost guaranteed to do anyway, and nightkilling a Singer means that the scum aren't nightkilling a more useful power role. As such, the role acts to slightly even out the mechanical advantage that scum gain from their various possible nightkill targets, reducing swing slightly.

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Singer" describes the passive ability as follows:

  • As an unmodified passive ability: If you die during Night, a random town flip will be revealed to the Mafia PT. (edit)
  • As a passive ability with a modifier: If you die during the nth Night OR Night on day n, a random town flip will be revealed to the Mafia PT. (edit)

Example (unmodified)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Singer.

If you die during Night, a random town flip will be revealed to the Mafia PT.

You have no active abilities.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (modified)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Novice Singer.

If you die during Night from Night 2 onwards, a random town flip will be revealed to the Mafia PT.

You have no active abilities.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
