A Shield is a role that may intercept a kill. If a Shield targets someone performing a kill, the Shield will instead take the kill.

Shield is usually Town. It makes little sense for there to be a Mafia Shield, as they have no reason to target anyone except a potential Vigilante; and a Vigilante who finds that their kill resolved on a different scum than they expected can simply shoot their previous target again.

Standard version

A Shield blocks their target's kill and dies instead of their target's target. A Shield cannot stop a Strongman from committing a kill, nor a Weak role from dying due to targeting anti-town.

Variations

A Power Shield is a variant that will also kill the person who performed the kill, in effect straight up reflecting the kill back at the user.

A Bodyguard takes a kill that targets the Bodyguard's target.

Welcome to game! You are a Town Shield.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will block your target's kill actions and you will be killed instead.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Town 1-shot Loud Shield.

You have the following active ability:

  • Once in the game at Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will block your target's kill actions and you will be killed instead. Your target will learn that you targeted them (but not what action you targeted them with).

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
