Randomized is a role modifier that causes any targets from the attached role to be randomized. This is of course a random element that serves to take away predictability from a role.

Standard version

A Randomized role may choose to act or not (unless also Compulsive). If a Randomized role acts, they will choose a random target and use their ability on that target. Randomized roles can be blocked just like a non-Randomized role. Usually, a Randomized role has no chance of self-targeting.

If the role usually has multiple targets, all targets are randomized.

A Randomized investigative role will know who they targeted.

Variations

A Randomized role may be allowed to randomly have themself as a target.

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Randomized" describes the modifier as follows:

  • As a modifier on a single ability: This action will target a random player. (edit)
  • As a modifier that affects all abilities: Your actions will target random players. (edit)

Example (modifying a single ability)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Randomized Jailkeeper.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be protected from kills that night, but all their actions will be blocked that night. This action will target a random player.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (affecting all abilities)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Randomized Jack of All Trades Tracker Doctor.

Your actions will target random players.

You have the following active abilities, but may use only one per Night:

  • Once in the game at night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn who that player targeted that night. (You will get "no result" if this action is blocked.)
  • Once in the game at night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, that player will be protected from one kill that night.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.
