A Parity Cop is a player who may learn if two players share an alignment or not.

Standard version

A Parity Cop targets two players during the night, and learns whether those two players share an alignment or not. If a Parity Cop's action fails (even on only one player), they will receive a "No Result" PM.

Variations

An Auditor checks one player and learns if they share an alignment with the player they previously checked or not.

The single target Parity Cop (better thought of as the old version of the Auditor) targets a player and gets a result corresponding to that player's alignment but doesn't initially know what result corresponds to what alignment.

The Parity modifier can be applied to other roles. A Parity Role Cop would learn if both players share the same role or not, and a Parity Reporter would learn if both or neither players have acted that night or not.

Use & Balance

A Parity Cop is less than twice as powerful as an Auditor (as it does not allow comparison of results from different Nights). However, it's still much more powerful than a regular Cop, especially outside multiball; discovering that two players are the same alignment normally makes it obvious what alignment that is, and if the alignments are different, town will often be able to discover which is scum (and thus confirm the other as town in the process).

The sample Role PM for "Parity Cop" describes the action as follows:

  • As an active action: you may target two players. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn whether those two players share an alignment. If this action fails, you will receive a "No Result" PM. (edit)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Parity Cop.

You have the following active ability:

  • Each Night, you may target two players. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn whether those two players share an alignment. If this action fails, you will receive a "No Result" PM.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Town 1-shot Parity Cop.

You have the following active ability:

  • Once in the game at Night, you may target two players. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn whether those two players share an alignment. If this action fails, you will receive a "No Result" PM.

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
