Improbable Role

Pretty much self-explanatory. Any Mafia Role that just doesn't seem likely. Improbable Roles may be out of place ("Pirates? In Texas?!"), too powerful ("You get to protect and investigate?"), inaccurate to the source material ("I am Zarquar the prophet."), or just plain weird ("You're Aragjag, and you're pro-town, and you need a known cop dead?").

Sometimes this improbability is due to sloppiness on the part of the mod. Other times it is because the role is faked. Still other times the mod introduced it just to screw things up. The last possibility is that the mod did nothing out of the ordinary and the role is real, but the player bungled the role claim to the point where it is no longer believed.

The gut impulse of players is often that Improbable Roles are more likely due to poor lying than anything else. That's why carefully and intentionally introduced Improbable Roles make a good device to work against the Mass Roleclaim every Game Moderator dreads.
