A Flavor Cop is a cop that, rather than recieving the standard guilty or innocent results, is returned a piece of information (often taking the form of an object) pertaining to the flavor of the target's role. The types of objects and the form of information vary substantially based on the theme of the game. These roles tend to force players to use deduction and are often used for verifying claims.
Flavor Cop is distinguished from Thief in that it does not TAKE anything from its target (though in practice many moderators use Thief and Flavor Cop interchangeably).

The more traditional and mafia-themed versions of this role are the Caterer and Gunsmith. The Gunsmith is told whether or not his target possesses a gun, for example. The player would have to determine, flavorwise, if his target fits the bill. Roles that usually carry guns are cops, mafia, and vigs. Serial Killers are usually returned to not be in possession of a firearm.
Flavor Cop is distinguished from Gunsmith and its ilk in that it does not receive a binary "Guilty/Not Guilty" (or equivalent) result.

The Caterer is a simple flavor cop that checks to see players' catering orders. He gets returned Pizza for Mafia, Donuts for Cop, and other food items for anyone else.
Flavor Cop is distinguished from Role Cop in that its result is ambiguous.

The most common use of a Flavor Cop is to verify someone's claims. For example, let's say that in a Mario themed game, someone claims Mario. A Flavor Cop may come out and say he investigated that player and got that he was wearing green, allowing a possible lynch on the grounds of Lynch All Liars. Flavor Cops usually only appear in themed games, and are usually only of the claim-verification variety in themed games.
A Gunsmith, who checks for guns, is an example of a Flavor Cop. This specific variant is Normal.

Flavor Cops are oftentimes used in place of traditional cops in order to avoid giving the town exact information. Because of the nature of their results, Flavor Cops are usually less powerful than normal cops.
| Use = Because it only gives results in accordance to the target's flavor, Flavor Cop is in practice weaker than Role Cop. This is not necessarily a drawback for purposes of balance, especially in games that feature a heavy emphasis on flavor.

A Flavor Cop is an investigative role that is returned a piece of information (often taking the form of an object) pertaining to the flavor of its target's role. The types of objects and the form of information vary substantially based on the theme of the game. These results tend to force players to deduce what the target's role is likely to be and are often used for verifying claims.

Flavor Cops are usually pro-Town.

Standard version

A Flavor Cop may investigate a player at Night to learn some information about the flavor of the target's role. This is a very broad role and each iteration of the Flavor Cop may be very different from one another.

Variations

In practice, Flavor Cop is a broad umbrella that could encompass all manner of invented investigative roles.

Flavor Cop is distinguished from Thief in that it does not TAKE anything from its target (though in practice many moderators use Thief and Flavor Cop interchangeably).

Flavor Cop is distinguished from Gunsmith and its ilk in that it does not receive a binary "Guilty/Not Guilty" (or equivalent) result.

Flavor Cop is distinguished from Role Cop in that its result is ambiguous.

A Gunsmith, who checks for guns, is an example of a Flavor Cop. This specific variant is Normal.

Use & Balance

Because it only gives results in accordance to the target's flavor, Flavor Cop is in practice weaker than Role Cop. This is not necessarily a drawback for purposes of balance, especially in games that feature a heavy emphasis on flavor.

This role is more powerful if it is easier to figure out what the flavor can mean.

Sample Role PMs

The standardized Role PM for "Flavor Cop" describes the action as follows:

 • As a targeted action: you will learn some flavor information about the target's role. (You will get "no result" if this action is blocked.) (edit)

Example (simplest form)

Welcome to game! You are a Town Flavor Cop.

You have the following active ability:

 • Each Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn some flavor information about the target's role. (You will get "no result" if this action is blocked.)

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.

Example (with modifiers)

Welcome to game! You are a Town 1-shot Loud Flavor Cop.

You have the following active ability:

 • Once in the game at Night, you may target a player. Assuming no interference with your action, you will learn some flavor information about the target's role. (You will get "no result" if this action is blocked.) Your target will learn that you targeted them (but not what action you targeted them with).

You win if all threats to the town are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Confirm by replying to this PM with a summary of your role.
