Line 1: Line 1:
Starting the game with the Day phase.  It has two main advantages:
Day Start simply means that the game starts with a Day phase.
* Because no-one dies during Night 1, everyone who signed up for the game gets to play at least one day.
* It reduces the risk that Game Balance will be thrown off very early by unexpected events during Night 1 (such as all the power roles being killed off).

The disadvantage is that without a Night phase, during Day 1 the town has even less information than it usually has, so Day 1 can be slower and more difficult.
The advantages to doing this over a Night Start are that:
*Everyone who signs up for a game gets to play.
*The balance of the game cannot be thrown off by Night 0.

Originally Night starts were ubiquitous, with only Newbie Games staring with Day; but there seems to be a trend towards Day Starts recently.  There is a discussion of the point in this thread.
The stated disadvantage of Day Start is that players do not have any information beyond what is in their Role PM.  Whether this is much different from Night Start is debatable.

Most games now are Day Start.

Day Start simply means that the game starts with a Day phase.

The advantages to doing this over a Night Start are that:

 • Everyone who signs up for a game gets to play.
 • The balance of the game cannot be thrown off by Night 0.

The stated disadvantage of Day Start is that players do not have any information beyond what is in their Role PM. Whether this is much different from Night Start is debatable.

Most games now are Day Start.
